Whether you
are a financial advisor, attorney, accountant, stock or insurance broker, etc., you have
an opportunity to play a role in helping your clients give back to their community while
managing their assets or planning their estates.
You likely are already aware of the philanthropy resources available to you at your
professional associations. In addition, here are a few resources you may find useful:
The Art of Charitable Planning
The Baltimore Giving Project, together with the Forum of Regional
Associations of Grantmakers, has developed this valuable resource to
help professional advisors address charitable giving issues with their
clients.
Options and Opportunities in Family Philanthropy: A Guide for the Professional
Advisor
This booklet, produced by the national Council on Foundations, examines how the
various charitable giving options can help advisors assist their clients in accomplishing
their personal and philanthropic goals. The booklet is available free from the Minnesota
Council on Foundations (1 copy per person). To order, complete and mail in the
Giving Resources Order Form.
The Philanthropic Advisors Network
The Philanthropic Advisors Network (PAN) was created by the
national Council on Foundations to promote opportunities for legal and
financial advisors to discuss charitable issues, assist their clients
and learn from each other. Subscription to PAN gives you access to a
national network of advisors, PAN's special Web-based resources,
one-on-one assistance from Council staff, and many other benefits.
Philanthropy in Diverse American Communities
"Cultures of Caring: Philanthropy in Diverse American Communities,"
produced by the national Council on Foundations, offers viewpoints on philanthropy from
affluent donors who are African American, Asian American, Latino and Native American.
These donors share their feelings about giving; how they select the organizations they
support; how they feel about establishing private foundations, setting up funds in
community foundations and contributing to existing charities. The report was developed in
close collaboration with organizations that represent the African-American,
Asian-American, Latino and Native-American philanthropic communities.
Planned Giving Design Center
This is a tremendous online resource available to you at no charge. The
Center's mission is "to act as an information conduit between charitable
organizations and professional advisors, whereby objective, authoritative information on
the subject of charitable gift planning is provided on a current basis."
U.S. Trust Survey of Affluent Americans
If you are interested in statistics on the giving patterns of affluent
Americans, U.S. Trust conducts regular polls of the top 1 percent of the
wealthiest Americans.
